Vision
St Bernard's Parish incorporates the worshiping communities of St
Bernard's, Upper Mt Gravatt and St Martin's, Eight Mile Plains. Since its
inception in 1969 the parish has moved through many stages of
development and today continues to strive to be a vibrant community of
faith within the Brisbane Archdiocese.
The parish exists to help people meet Christ and to live out their faith in a
supportive and caring community. The many groups and services
operating in the parish share in this mission and endeavour to serve the
spiritual, social and educational needs of the local area.
"I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE"
The window of the risen Christ has been placed over the front entrance
of St Bernard's church as a memorial to the life and priesthood of Fr
Kevin Aspinall PP 1925-1991. Fr Aspinall was the first parish priest of
the Upper Mt Gravatt parish and died on the 12th December 1991. The
window was given in memory of his leadership and pastoral care of St
Bernard's community by his family and the parishioners of St Bernard's
and St Martin's.
The stained glass window depicts the Risen Christ with us as a
community of faith. It includes Mt Gravatt, the parish church of St
Bernard's and our schools, St Bernard's and Clairvaux MacKillop
College, signifying Christ as the heart of our development and
ministry in this area of Brisbane. The window is framed by a large
vine which illustrates the biblical image of Christ as the vine and we
as the branches.
